Z-LINK: The First Design

2010: The Z-Link Was Born

In 2010 a new suspension system was conceived labelled the Z-link due to the "Z" shape the linkages and frame struts form.

The system was created because of the potential to improve pedalling efficiency and performance.  See the Suspension Tech Page for more info.

Not much happened for many years for various reasons until a proof of concept was created....

2017: Z-Link Gen 1 (Proof of Concept)

    2018: Z-Link Gen 2 - More Refined

      Short Introduction to the Prototypes

Proof of Concept and Gen 2

      The Journey Takes a Turn

What to do with the Invention?

Once a patent application was filed and the 2nd prototype built, a trip to Canada was planned to promote the system to manufacturers.  Labelled as VAST for Variable Anti Squat Technology.

      Discussions with Commencal

Discussions with Commencal commenced and they were showing interest in this system.

      Another Inventor

      Another Inventor

While at Whistler to promote the Z-Link System I discovered that Damon Madsen had separately invented the same system and filed a patent application first.

Further commercialisation of the system was therefore dropped by Bhaack.

      Commencal Meta V5

Commencal prototyped the system in 2023 and began using the "Z-Link" platform across their 2024 Meta range of bikes.

Its good to see the technology out in the world.
